Stress, sleep deprivation, a daily diet of processed and deep-fried food – that’s what life is all about these days. Is it really a wonder that our skin looks tired and disagreeable? With everything that we put our body and our mind through, the first effects are always on our skin. Our faces become dull and tired when we are under stress and can’t sleep much; we get acne and blemishes when we eat unhealthy food. Not to mention the extra torture some women put their skin under by using heavy makeup regularly.

But it is possible to get beautiful, smooth skin without having to go under a knife or doing something unnatural. Here are 10 ways you can do so, naturally.

  • Drink Water. This is the first, the last and the final word for good skin. You have to drink water, a lot of it. The average adult needs about 2 litres of water to keep their body and skin hydrated, which is around 8 glasses of water. This is the amount you need to flush unwanted toxins out of your body, keep your body hydrated, keep your blood supply clean, and also, keep your skin moisturized.

Start drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water every day (the more the better), and you can soon see a difference in your skin.

  • Eat what’s good for your skin. Oily and fried food is destructive for your skin; as are processed and packaged food, refined carbohydrates, caffeine and alcohol. The healthiest food for your body are also what’s good for your skin, i.e. plenty of fruits, vegetables and leafy greens, lean protein, fishes with lots of Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin C-enriched fruits, legumes, poultry and dairy.
  • Get plenty of Rest. A total of 8-hours of continuous sleep is essential for your health, body and mind, but this is something almost impossible to achieve. Whether you have to wake up early for a long commute, or if you have young children who keep you awake all night, peaceful sleep is a dream for many.

However, for a refreshed and healthier looking skin, it is very important that you get some rest. If you lead a hectic life or have a very stressful career, you need to give a good night’s rest to recover and get energized. When you sleep, your body recovers itself from all the work you have done when awake, and also makes you skin look fresh and well-rested.

  • Clean your Face Plenty of Times. The rule of thumb is to clean your face with water at least two to three times every day, once in the morning and once before going to bed, and if possible, in the middle of the day. Of course, you’ll need a proper face wash or cleansing agent for the job; but it is very important that you at least give your face at least 2/3 times with water if you don’t have access to soap or face wash.

Besides, it is also important to remember to wash your face thoroughly after working out, after spending time in a polluted environment (i.e. in traffic) and after removing your makeup.

  • Learn to Sweat. The best way to sweat is by exercising, jogging or running, and this is good not only for your body and your health but also your skin. The more you sweat, the more harmful toxins are flushed out of your body via your skin; after washing your face with a good face wash, soap or cleansing agent, your skin will, therefore, look softer, smoother and brighter, especially your face.
  • Get Serious About Skin Exfoliation. Only washing your face and body with water and soap/face wash isn’t enough; you need proper exfoliation. Exfoliation is a process where you can not only clean your skin but remove any kind of dead skin cells from the surface, revealing a healthier and brighter skin below.

You can exfoliate your skin at home by using the right scrubs and peels that suit your skin, or you can visit a salon for professional help. Getting your face exfoliated and cleaned by a professional at least once every two months can actually be a good idea.

  • Try Some Home Remedies. Before you start spending thousands on expensive skincare products, there are a few home remedies you can try. Turmeric and chickpea powder mixed with milk or water is a good recipe for making your skin brighter; on the other hand, massaging your skin with slightly warm coconut oil can help in exfoliation. Aloe Vera mixed with a little turmeric, a few drops of honey and a teaspoon of milk can also add some glow to your face, and a mixture of grated cucumber and yogurt will remove dark circles and blemishes from your face.

All these are home remedies that you can make yourself and apply to your face, hands, feet, and other parts of your body, then wash away when taking a shower. None of these home remedies has any adverse side effects unless you are allergic to these ingredients.
